In the military, many of the decisions are made for you such as what your job is, who you work for, where you live, and even your work uniform. After your time in service, you have the opportunity to make these decisions for yourself. Transitioning out of the military or moving to a new duty station is difficult enough, but all of the additional decisions you\u2019ll have to make when you select a new career adds even more stress. There are more ways for employers to show that they value your military experience beyond saying \u201cThank you for your service.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">We want to simplify this search for you by showing you how to identify which employers are interested in hiring veterans and military spouses. There are three main ways you can start narrowing down your search for your next employer. <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><b>1.) Companies tell you that they are military friendly in their metrics, words or deeds.<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><em>&#8211;<\/em>\u00a0Start by looking at who is featured on <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/bestforvets2021.militarytimes.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Military Times Annual Survey<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.militaryfriendly.com\/employers\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Military Friendly<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hirevets.gov\/awardees\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">HireVets<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, and <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.forbes.com\/lists\/best-employers-for-veterans\/#6a125d0a3606\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Forbes<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. In order to qualify for these lists, employers must demonstrate the numbers of veteran and military spouse hires, retained, promoted and types of veteran and spouse integration programs they've created.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: left;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8211; Check to see if they are a <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/skillbridge.osd.mil\/organizations.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Skillbridge Authorized Organization<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> program.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: left;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8211; The employer has a <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/splash.ripplematch.com\/career-advice\/companies-committed-to-hiring-and-supporting-veterans-b649973c\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Veteran Hiring Initiative.\u00a0<\/span><\/a><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: left;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8211; They have a military specific landing page like <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.wellsfargojobs.com\/military\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Wells Fargo<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/hiring.amazon.com\/our-team\/military?gclid=CjwKCAjwx7GYBhB7EiwA0d8oe24OrsOy2NkwsnCAVPsRZt2pDE07cAmxcmA5qlQUbOC2cystGPwQIxoCduEQAvD_BwE#\/?cmpid=SAGOSD0975H9:pcid-17278574529:agid-134087877542:adid-598449048364:tct-br:kwd-amazon%20military%20jobs:mt-p:ext-:lng-en:ct-us\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Amazon<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, or <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/careers.homedepot.com\/career-areas\/military\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Home Depot<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: left;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8211; Military Occupational Specialities or Codes are listed on the job description as desired experience.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: left;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8211; Review the job requirements to see if the company allows military experience over education.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: left;\" aria-level=\"1\">&#8211; Search to see if they <a style=\"background-color: #ffffff;\" href=\"https:\/\/finance.yahoo.com\/news\/10-companies-back-veterans-210048970.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">donate<\/a> to veteran programs or offer <a style=\"background-color: #ffffff;\" href=\"https:\/\/shop.id.me\/military\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">military discounts<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><b>2.)<\/b> <strong>Companies show you that they are military friendly.<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: left;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8211; They offer Military Differential Pay for Reservists and National Guardsmen or have been recognized by <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.esgr.mil\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: left;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8211; Veterans and military spouses are in <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxbusiness.com\/money\/military-veterans-fortune-500-ceos\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">leadership<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> positions at their organization.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: left;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8211; They have Veteran Resource Groups at their company and empower them to make decisions and launch initiatives.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: left;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8211; Search to see if they have unique training programs or apprenticeships specific to veterans or military spouses.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: left;\" aria-level=\"1\">&#8211; They partner with Hire Heroes USA directly. Prioritize military friendly employers because it gives you a competitive advantage in the hiring process.
